Security for the forgetful

This is a tale of a not so young woman going through airport security with a full water bottle. If you think you know the ending, please read the story anyway. As with many things in life, it's the journey that counts.

Because I'm flying business class, I got a fast pass to security. At Heathrow’s Terminal 5, this means a special door with no lineups. No lineups means no reminders to empty water bottles. You know where this is going.

My bags were stuck in the scanning machine. The nice man whose name tag carried the title “Scanning Manager” asked:
did you pack the bags yourself
Can you describe what’s in them?  My iPod stand and a metal board to hold my knitting patterns; My knitting needles
What about organic materials? Some airplane chocolate (Lindt Extreme Orange dark chocolate bar)
Do you have a book? Yes, I forgot
Anything else?
Ma’am, we can't release your bag from the scanning tunnel until we know what's in it. Are you sure no one else had access to your bag? Do you have anything that's round?  Oh. My water bottle is full. I forgot to empty it.

Ma'am you can see how it's shaped like an improvised incendiary device.

No, no, it's just my water bottle. I forgot about it. Can you just empty it for me?  No I can return it to you and you can drink it. But it's 750 mils, and I can't drink that much right away. Can I empty it some where?

Ma'am I can take it after you've had some of it. And he did.

The food in the airport lounge is nothing like that in Kuala Lumpur. The only food I could eat was apples, oranges, bananas, rice, baked potatoes and baked beans. What didn't have dairy had soy. Great array of gluten free choices. Not much for me though. Sigh.

On the other hand, the water is from Glenlivit, Speyside. Not flavoured; not distilled.

I had a lovely conversation with a woman heading off to India to see her mother in law. She's breaking the news that she can't come to London for a three month visit because the family recently had a break in, and they don't feel it's a good time.

I saw from the departures board that my flight is operated by Iberia Airlines. Another carrier to add to my list!  Although, British Airways would also have been another carrier to add to my list (now at 28).  It'll go soon
