Easy Street

Miranda Hart was a wonderful Miss Hannigan on the stage of London’s Piccadilly Theatre. She channeled her inner Carol Burnett, just as she said she would do on an episode of the Graham Norton Show. She wasn't as slurred as Carol Burnett, but she was uncharacteristically raunchy when she sang Easy Street with Rooster and Lily. And I could feel her distaste when she sang Little Girls.

The Daddy Warbucks actor had a fabulous voice, and many musical theatre credits. I can truly imagine him has Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, proudly proclaiming that “when I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs to help me get large. And now I'm a man and eat five dozen eggs so I'm roughly the size of a barge.”

The staging was not as captivating as Kinky Boots, but the musical is much older, and in many ways simpler. I certainly enjoyed the exuberance of Kinky Boots more, and am thrilled to have seen Miranda Hart in person. Many of you know her from her portrayal as Chummy in Call the Midwife.

I almost forgot -- there was a Whole Foods store across from the theatre, so I grabbed dinner from the salad bar. I had a cup of roasted carrots and parsnips, cut like French fries. Super yummy.

I'm not sure what I'll see tomorrow. It depends on what's half price.

During the day, I'll visit Kew Gardens.
